7 Steps to Organizing

Being able to quickly organize things, and stay cool under pressure is a skill many people want, but don’t know how to achieve.  Here’s seven steps to help you organize anything.

1.  You need to get your mind ready.  If you aren’t ready, how are you going to do what you want to do?  Setting up in your starting blocks, if you will, will give you a fast and reliable start for every project.  Remember, you have to start somewhere.

2.  Ask yourself initial questions such as Who? What? When? Where? How?  These may seem stupid, but might really help you in the long run.  Make sure to record these somewhere other than your brain, too, so there will always be a reference available, just in case you forget.

3.  Stop deadline pressure by knowing everything about your project.  This coincides with number two, but it also includes not procastinating.

4.  Don’t take on too much work.  Too much work will overwhelm you, and you’ll never get anything done.

5.  Manage your time.  Managing you time allows you to work well, without becoming overwhelemed by the amount of work or by deadlines.  If you manage your time correctly, the deadlines may seem too far off, instead of too close.

6.  Make instant adjustments to time scales if something major happens in your life.  If this means droppping a project, do it, you’ll be thanking yourself when you aren’t rushing around trying to squeeze three days of work in a half a day.

7.  Protect you time.  Your time is valuable, and as some people say, time is money.  Don’t get distracted.  Try and isolate yourself from distractions, unless you work better with people buzzing about around you, in which case you should work in a coffee shop, or somewhere similar.
