Many people today see the computer as a word processor and a way to access the Internet. However, very few people have seen the computer for its potential as a cleaning tool. Surprised? Don’t be. When people think about cleaning tools, they usually think about vacuum cleaners and other tools that help get rid of dirt and clutter. Since you can’t use a computer to sweep the floor, how can you use it to reduce the amount of clutter in your home? Simple: use it in the manner it was designed for: organizing information.
Take a look around your home, especially near the phone area and you’ll probably notice that there are a lot of scattered pieces of paper. You may have used these to write numbers, messages and shopping lists and other bits of information. A piece of paper can only hold so many bits of information before it is rendered useless for writing. Since the information written on those bits of paper are frequently only used once, the paper is often discarded quickly and tends to clutter a home.
What you need to do is start using your computer to store those bits of information. Instead of writing a phone number down on a piece of paper, you can type it into a computer. This would allow you to reduce the amount of paper you use around the house and thus, reduce the amount of clutter in your home. The great thing about a computer is that you can easily organize any data you enter and access it any time you want!
Of course, a lot of people might find it inconvenient to have to go to the computer whenever they’re writing something down. However, you use an interim device to hold information until you can get it on a computer with another device such as a cellular phone. Instead of writing down phone numbers, you should just enter them into your mobile phone’s phonebook. Instead of writing down a grocery list, you can just input the list as a text message and save it on your outbox or your drafts folder. Some cell phones have a notepad that allow you to store data, and some phones will even let you import the data into your computer for more permanent storage.
By using devices such as the computer and mobile phone, you can easily eliminate waste paper. This will not only help keep your home more organized, but also give you a chance to protect the environment. After all, saving paper results in saving trees!
