Organizing – Five Minutes at a Time

270049_s101messydesk1For most people, the chore of organizing is something that is put off until the very last moment when clutter seems to overcome every tabletop in the home and you are unable to see the surface of your workspace. Combine this with the overflowing closets and you are faced with what seems like disaster. Can you really make a dent in the mess in as little as five minutes? The answer is yes! Here are some ways that you can start to declutter your life in as little as five minutes and be on your way to an organized existence.

Grab a Trash bag and start picking up things that belong in the trash. There are pieces of mail, junk mail and many other items that seem to accumulate within the home that should be put into the garbage before they contribute to the clutter of the home. This is the perfect time to cut your attachment to the junk and reduce the clutter in your home. Aim to fill up a trash bag in five minutes. You are going to be shocked at how easy it is and even appalled at the amount of garbage that is lying around your home.

Start with one room at a time. Trying to organize the home in one day is crazy if you have been accumulating junk for months, or even years. Use your five minutes wisely and tackle each room a day. For the first week spend the five minutes using the trash bag method and putting things in the garbage that you no longer want, or no longer need. The first week of the organizing process should include the trash bags and each room of the house. This clears the slate and allows you to realize the items that you have accumulated.

Mail seems to accumulate and other papers seem to find their way to tabletops and in drawers around the home. If you have not made use of a filing cabinet, now is the time. Take five minutes each day to sift through the papers and put them in their proper place within the filing system. When mail comes into the house allow the papers to be put into one place until they are filed. Make use of a basket or an organizer that can be placed on the wall to have the maximum effectiveness on reducing the clutter within your home.

Using these tips it is easy to get rid of the clutter in your home in as little as five minutes! The key is to tackle on task at a time and get rid of the junk that comes with the clutter. Taking the time to focus on one task means that you can spend all of your time and attention on this task. There is hope for your home to become clutter free – and as an added bonus the five minutes each day should be enough to maintain the organization that has been created!
