It happens to the best of us; one day we simply open a cupboard and a pile of plates, spices, bags of random items and condiments seem to jump out at us. This is the sign that the kitchen is suffering from some serious organization issues and must be decluttered. The kitchen is the one room of the home where we tend to spend most of our time and therefore it is the easiest room that can become filled with clutter. Here are some tips and techniques that can be used to reduce the clutter that is found in the kitchen:
Start with the Cupboards
Cupboards are easy to fill up with dishes, storage and many other items and can give a quick relief when the doors are closed and the clutter can be forgotten about. When the cupboards open however and are overflowing with items it is time to take charge. Remove all items that should not be placed in the cupboard from them, especially plastic cups and other items that are being kept from fast-food and other types of restaurants. These types of products simply add to the clutter and you should avoid accumulating them as they can be impossible to get rid of.
Clear Up Some Counter space
Counter space is an essential part of the kitchen as it allows you to have space to work while the food is being prepared. There are many items that can clutter the counter tops and cause the kitchen to appear messy and overwhelm the space. Remove papers and other items that do not belong in the kitchen from the counters and use a catch-all basket that can be used to organize keys, cellular phones and all of the other items that seem to end up on the kitchen counters.
Organize Items in Containers and Ziploc Bags
Items that are similar and bulky within the pantry can be grouped together in Ziploc bags and kept fresh at the same time. Containers are a perfect way to store cereal and get rid of the cereal boxes that can be bulky and difficult to store within the cupboards. Buying in bulk is a great way to save money, but can become a crutch when you are unsure about how to store the items. Be sure to go through the pantry on a regular basis to ensure that foods are kept fresh and foods that have expired are not used.
